OA football hosted Silver Lake on Friday coming off a nail biter against Concord-Carlisle which they ended up losing despite a stand out performance by Junior running back Nathan Cabral.
Looking for their first win OA started off aggressively with an onside kick, but Silver Lake recovered and went on to score a touchdown on their opening drive beginning the game 7-0. On the kickoff OA fumbled the ball giving it right back to Silver Lake who scored another touchdown on that drive making it 14-0.
On OA´s next drive they would fail to get a first down forfeiting the ball back to Silver Lake, which would lead to another touchdown bringing the score to 21-0. Silver Lake went on the recover their kickoff and close out the first quarter with the ball up 21-0. They then continued to march down the field for another score making it 28-0.
After a disastrous start for OA they began to show signs of life on offense bringing the ball down field and ending the drive with an 8-yard touchdown pass from Cam Perron to Harrison Webster.
OA ramped up the defense on SIlver Lake´s next drive making the quarterback much less comfortable. On a pass play by Silver Lake Sam Stevens came up with a crucial interception. This set up a monstrous run for Nathan Cabral breaking multiple tackles on his way to a 71-yard rushing touchdown closing out the half 28-12 in favor of SIlver Lake.
In the second half OA picked up right were the left things off by disrupting passes and sacking the quarterback multiple times. The defensive intensity of OA allowed the Tigers to get back on offense. The Tigers were able to score again in the third quarter on a pass from Cam Perron to Shane Kilkelly which made it 28-18. The remainder of the game was a defensive battle with neither team scoring again and OA was not able to complete the comeback with a 28-18 loss to Silver Lake.
The positives from the game was the strong run game from Junior Nathan Cabral, hopefully the team can utilize his abilities more during the rest of the season. Also the defense looked extremely strong after the first shutting out Silver Lake for the whole second half and a majority of the second quarter. OA faces one of their rivals in Taunton next week looking for their first win of the season in the Tiger vs. Tiger matchup.
