I am here to get away from politics, and I am all about hyping up our sports teams, getting a few laughs, and hating the basketball play ‘Wisconsin’. With all that said, America’s past time is coming back in full force as people are actually starting to get back into Baseball and our team at Oliver Ames as true potential to be Hock Champs and even State Champs.
A bunch of seniors are coming back with a bunch of skilled juniors and some already having varsity experience. The two projected starting pitchers are juniors Matt McCormack, who was a beast in the late stretch of the season and playoffs striking out kids left and right, and Tom Parker, who has rumored to be clocked at 90 MPH. Coming in for relief will probably consist of Nick ‘Rat” Zwerle, Ben Acker, Jay Fruci, Chris Perron, Chris Pearsons, and Michael Mulrean. Maybe even Ryan Torgersen, maybe… Teams facing this pitching class will have a tough time seeing the ball let alone hitting it.
The team has leadership under captain Matt Muir who is a beast in the infield and no ground balls will get by him. Complimenting him is junior Chris Pearsons who is an actual force with his quick ability to move anywhere. Also in the infield is Michael Mulrean, who will get every kid out every time. Right now there is no clear person for the lone position of First Base but we know Coach Abarr will get the right kid (Philip Poirier…), and lastly but not least at all, Jake Erlich will take the most starts behind the plate while Reid Latham will most likely take the other.
The outfield will most likely consist of stud Mitchell Goulet who can throw hammers a football field away, and first-time varsity kid Sean O’Brien, just don’t yell at the kid, he will get rattled. The last spot in the outfield is open for anyone too as of now but whoever can take it will be great for the Tigers. Lastly, John Orsigner, John Gomes and Michael Friel will provide big bats to drive in big runs for the team.
Each of these players have proven to be good ball players. The depth this team has is something no other team has seen before. Oliver Ames deserves another championship team: why not Baseball?
