In the late afternoon this past Sunday, the baseball season for the Boston Red Sox came to a disappointing end after they gave up a 3-2 lead in the 8th inning to the Houston Astros, who went on to win the game 5-4. This blown lead inevitably cost the Red Sox their entire season, as Houston won the American League Division Series, also known as the ALDS, 3-1.
All in all, when the dust settled following this playoff defeat, the performances from the team’s star players, or supposedly star players, were piss poor. Prior to his solo home run in the first inning of Sunday’s game, shortstop Xander Bogaerts was 0-14 for the entire playoff series! In addition, one of the fan favorites, Dustin Pedroia, had a batting average of .125 throughout the ALDS. Skipping past all players who were poised to perform at a high level, the truly standout player for all batters was the unexpected Hanley Ramirez. Hanley batted around .570, which led all starters by a wide margin. However, he could not carry the team to the second round of playoffs as their season came to a devastating end. As fans, we should all support the team and hope for a great season next year!
