Volleyball’s Rough Start

September 26, 2017 By The Daily Olivian

By Chris Pearsons

The Oliver Ames volleyball team may be off to a tough start, but nobody doubts their ability to come back.

Although they are just 2-6, they are coming off of a victory over Attleboro on Monday and will hopefully carry this momentum into their game on Wednesday, when they will face off against Taunton. The team thinks the season has started out so poorly because with many new additions, they are not familiar with each other.

Sadie Homer (Junior) says that the team “is starting to grasp the concept that we can’t create offense without working as a whole”.  In practice they have been focusing in on these weaknesses, hoping that it will make a difference in the rest of the season.  The team undoubtedly has the talent, led by captains Kayla Raymond, Katie Flynn, Emma Petrillo, who are supported by many other great athletes.

The juniors are extremely talented and offer just as much strength to the team as the seniors. Everyone contributes to the team, as they name a different “player of the game” almost every time.  “The keys to success are communicating, positivity, determination, dedication, and being there for each other, on and off the court” says Sadie.

They are motivated to become the comeback kids and show the Hock the true talent that is overshadowed by their record.  Everyone be there this Wednesday for their game as they take on the Taunton Tigers!
