Oliver Ames football hosted the league rival Taunton Tigers Friday night in a highly anticipated match up. Oliver Ames hoped to bounce back with a win at home after a tough loss against Silver Lake despite a stellar performance from junior halfback, Anthony Berksza. OA kicked off to start the game and the defense held strong, producing a three and out on Taunton’s first drive.
On offense, halfbacks Anthony Berksza and Jay Frucci ran the field most of the night due to poor throwing conditions. At the half Oliver Ames led Taunton by a score of 12-6 and received the ball to begin the second half. Oliver Ames ran into offensive trouble in the second half and yardage was difficult to come by. Taunton captured a one point lead after a spectacular throw and catch, resulting in a 45 yard touchdown. Oliver Ames battled back and with two minutes to go in the fourth quarter they orchestrated a drive putting them within yards of the lead. Despite the powerful drive Taunton’s defense stood strong and dismantled Oliver Ames’ offensive line, forcing a field goal. The chip shot by kicker Anthony Berksza just missed wide to the right. Despite the phenomenal push at the end Oliver Ames fell 13-12 putting them to 1-2 on the year. The team will be on the hunt for their second win this Thursday against the Franklin Panthers. Crowds can make or break a team, so come support the Tigers Thursday night at home!!
