On Sunday, September 10th, Oliver Ames music alumni gathered on the stage to bid a final farewell to the woman they all learned to love and be inspired by: Mrs. Charlene Dalrymple.
The event, appropriately named Celebrating Charlene, was a tribute to honor Mrs. D’s forty years of contribution to the Oliver Ames music department, and everything that her commitment entailed. Alumni from all parts of the music department either attended or performed in the event, ranging from former musical and show choir members to current band and concert choir members. Although Mrs. D was not the director of every single ensemble within the music department, it is clear that her impact on all of them will never be forgotten and that students within them were just as inspired by her as students she directly taught.
Mrs. D watched the entire event as an audience member as messages of love flooded the screen behind the stage and former students of hers performed individually and in groups, showcasing the talents that were harbored and perfected by none other than Mrs. D herself. Many stories of Mrs. D’s influence were shared and related to by everyone in attendance.
Following the tribute performance, a reception was held at the Easton Country Club to further honor Mrs. D’s efforts. The turnout at this event was equally significant, and costumes and props from years past decorated the club, reminding every one of all the entertainment she has provided to the community as a whole. Photos and videos of past performances were shared, and the trip down memory lane only made everyone appreciate Dalrymple even more.
Though we are all sad that Mrs. D is no longer a teacher in Oliver Ames High School, we know she deserves to relax after all she has done. The event may have already happened, but no one in the community will ever stop Celebrating Charlene.
