“So I’m a songwriter. It started in middle school, probably sixth or seventh grade. It happened when I started listening to a lot of 90s rock…it made me realize that was the kind of music that I wanted to do. Like Hole, Smashing Pumpkins, Marilyn Manson, Radiohead…I could keep going, but I won’t. I write a lot of stuff like that but I also write some folk-type music too. I play a lot of acoustic stuff; I’m trying to start playing some restaurants and solo acoustic gigs. I write the lyrics and the music because I want to focus my career on both writing and performing – I feel most comfortable on stage but want people to like my songs as well.” -Michael Kjelgaard, grade 11
