With Halloween just ending, it seems like an appropriate time to address a clearly important issue: What are the best candies out there, and why? Here’s a list of my personal favorites and what I believe makes them so great.
Chocolate Candies
5. Snickers
I love peanuts, and I think that’s the best part of this candy: the fact that there are actual peanuts right in the middle of it. And hey, according to their advertisements, you’re not you when you’re hungry…so I’d go get a snickers if I were you!
4. Baby Ruth
I feel like these are so underrated today. They’re like a less extravagant form of Snickers in my opinion, but don’t get me wrong – less extravagant does not mean they are worse! I love Snickers, but I think I like these just a little more…
3. Twix
Do you like the left twix? The right twix? How about both! Who’s ever heard of sharing a candy bar anyway? Something about the biscuit part of the candy combined with the caramel and then of course the chocolate on top just tastes like a perfect ratio of ingredients.
2. Kit Kat
A classic. Not only do you get one stick of the candy in a bar… you get four. Personally, these are the first candies that would always disappear when I had my own Halloween candy – I could never stop eating them. It’s also a pretty unique choice for a candy bar, with the wafer inside of the chocolate…their uniqueness makes them all the better!
1. Reese’s
You can’t go wrong with this one (unless, of course, you are allergic to peanuts. In that case I am sorry). I feel like no matter what kind of mood I am in, I could eat a Reese’s peanut butter cup and at least somewhat feel better. It’s the perfect combination of chocolate and peanut butter; the only downside to this one is that it nearly always leaves you wanting more.
General Candies
5. Tootsie Rolls
Okay, let’s be real… what are these actually made of? Regardless, I could always go for one of these. I’m pretty sure I hated them when I was a kid but now they’ve grown on me. Did you know these are considered the number one chewy chocolaty candy in America?
4. Jolly Ranchers
The classic hard candy choice, of course. My favorites are green apple and cherry, but I know blue raspberry is a common preference. Fun fact: Did you know that these are made by Hershey’s Chocolate Company?
3. Milk Duds
I’ll probably get judged for this one because I honestly do not know many others who like these as much as I do. But, hey, if you like caramel and you’ve never tried these, you really should. They are literally little blobs of caramel and chocolate and small enough that you don’t get sick of them. Does that not sound good?
2. Swedish Fish
In my opinion, Swedish Fish are literally Sour Patch Kids without the sour. Which is sometimes nice, especially when you’re just not in the mood for the extra tang of the former. Also, try to name what this flavor is. Cherry? Raspberry? Fruit punch? I don’t think any of those really fit…this candy has an entirely stand-alone flavor that you can’t find in much else.
1. Sour Patch Kids/Watermelons
I love both equally, and probably for different reasons, so I knew they both had to be on here. Even though they word sour is in their names, I feel like these aren’t unbearably sour, which makes them even better. These are my go-to candies when I want something sweet, especially at a place like the movies.
